13 prize winners in Economics and Nobel Peace Prize–winner and founder of the Grameen Bank in Bangladesh, Mohammad Yunus, will be journeying to Lake Constance to meet with a cross–section of the world´s most promising up–and–coming economists in order to discuss current developments in economics. Participants include Professor Robert J. Aumann (awarded the prize in 2005), Roger B. Myerson (2007), Joseph E. Stiglitz (2001) and Robert M. Solow, the world´s most renowned labour market theorist. From August 20th - 23rd, they will be discussing topics such as the future cost of the health care system, Europe´s and the United States´ low–wage sector, and the role of liquidity and risk management in the financial sector in lectures, panel discussions, and countless personal encounters with the next generation of economists.
Panel discussions on the topics "Systemic Risks in Financial Markets" (Thursday, August 21st at 10:30am in the Inselhalle Lindau) and "Globalization, Technical Progress and Labor Markets "” Causes and Consequences of the Bifurcation of Wages and Income" (Saturday, August 23rd at 10:15am at the University of St. Gallen) are sure to provide new insights. The names of prizewinning participants will be released soon. The Meeting is proud to present David Wessel (Wall Street Journal) as the host and mediator of the first panel and Martin Wolf (Financial Times) as the host for the second.
The Meetings in Economic Sciences at Lake Constance have taken place every second year since 2004. The Council for the Lindau Nobel Laureate Meetings and the Foundation Lindau Nobelprizewinners Meetings at Lake Constance host the event, which is responsible for the world´s most unique encounters between the best economists of today and tomorrow. All participating up–and–coming economists have been selected based on a selection procedure, in which the 300 economic scientists who will be allowed to participate are chosen from a pool of more than 2,500 applicants.
