BUDAPEST (Reuters) - Hungary and Russia have reached a political deal on Russian gas shipments to Hungary, Prime Minister Viktor Orban said on Tuesday after a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Hungary's long-term gas supply deal expires this year, but Orban said that under the agreement reached on Tuesday Hungary will have access to the unused gas in the contract.
"The gas contract... problem has been solved," Orban told a joint press conference with Putin.
"Only technical questions remain, the political agreement has been born. Within the framework of the current contract there is a possibility to use the gas that we have not used... and pay at the time when we use it."
