Warner Home Video Announces European Launch of High Definition Blu-ray Disc Titles

Warner Home Video, which distributes the largest film
library of any studio, announced today at IFA 2006 the company's plans
to release more than 10 high definition Blu-ray Disc titles in
European markets. These countries include France, Germany, Spain and
the UK. The initial films are expected to be available in late 2006
and represent a combination of recent hits and catalog favorites.
Warner Bros. will release titles to coincide with the expected
European roll out of Blu-ray movie players. Titles will include recent
hits such as Firewall and Syriana, and classics from the extensive
Warner Home Video library such as Full Metal Jacket, Training Day and
Space Cowboys.
"As the leader in high definition content, Warner Home Video is
pleased to announce titles in support of the European launch of
Blu-ray Disc hardware," said Ron Sanders, President of Warner Home
Video. "With more European consumers purchasing high definition TVs,
the demand for content is steadily growing. To date, consumers have
been limited to watching only high definition broadcast programming.
Warner Bros. Blu-ray Disc titles now provide movie fans with stunning
high definition quality and the convenience offered by packaged
media."
Blu-ray Disc offers resolution six times higher than standard
definition DVDs, extraordinarily vibrant contrast and color in
addition to beautifully crisp sound. Blu-ray Disc also provides a new
level of interactivity, giving instant access to extra features with
the debut of a seamless menu-bar that allows viewers to enjoy features
and settings without leaving or interrupting the film.
Today, the vast Warner Bros. library, considered one of the most
prestigious and prodigious in the world, consists of more than 6,600
feature films, 40,000 television titles and 14,000 animated titles
(including over 1,500 classic animated shorts). The library currently
consists of films from such distinguished banners as Warner Bros.
Pictures, Castle Rock, Warner Independent Pictures, Lorimar Pictures,
RKO and classic MGM (pre-1986).
