Smithers Rapra: Regional President to Open Europe?s Key Event for Biobased Industries Hosted in Champagne-Ardenne

From 30th September-2nd October, the EFIB congress comes to Reims, capital of the beautiful Champagne-Ardenne region; a thriving hub for biobased industries and expertise.Champagne-Ardenne is gearing up to welcome the 7th annual European Forum for Industrial Biotechnology and the Biobased Economy, and, organisers are pleased to announce that the President of the Regional Council of Champagne-Ardenne, Mr Jean-Paul Bachy will provide the official opening address.

Mr Bachy comments “It will be my pleasure to open this prestigious meeting for the biobased economy, which is an opportunity for unprecedented exchanges with leading international experts. Champagne-Ardenne is dedicated to advancing the use of biobased technologies throughout Europe and we are glad to be able to showcase our capabilities at this great event.”

Gwenole Cozigou, Director, DG Enterprise and Industry, Directorate for Resources Based, Manufacturing and Consumer Goods Industries at the European Commission will also join Mr Bachy in the opening session.

EFIB 2014 is organised in a region where farmers are at the forefront of the bioeconomy. To underline this specificity, organisers are pleased to welcome Olivier de Bohan, Chairman, Foundation Jacques de Bohan and President of Cristal Union, who will share the commitment of farmers to advancing the biobased economy.

Agricultural focus continues into the feedstocks session. Virginie Rimbert, Programme Officer, Research and Innovation, European Commission DG Agriculture, one of the key speakers in this session, hopes to “receive an overview on how new value chains can reach the market” and the value chains session with input from Amyris, Total, BioAmber and Faurecia, will explore each step of the journey from biomass to end consumer.

To help achieve commercialisation of the European bioeconomy EFIB will showcase successful scale-up of biobased industries across the globe, in a dedicated session with representatives from South Africa, Canada, Brazil and Thailand. Plus, in line with EFIB’s commitment to advancing the scale-up of new technologies and helping to introduce innovative start-ups to potential investors, the financing roundtable will help attendees understand where the EU stands on funding for innovation and production of new biobased products.

700 attendees from over 35 different countries will join organisers EuropaBio and Smithers Rapra in Reims this October, to drive forward this progressive and beneficial technology.
