Telenor Satellite Services, a subsidiary of Telenor of
Norway (Oslo Stock Exchange:TEL and NASDAQ:TELN), today announced that
the company will add the new, cost-efficient Wideye(TM) SABRE(TM) 1
Broadband Global Area Network (BGAN) satellite terminal and
accessories to its portfolio of on demand communications technologies.
Addvalue Communications Pte Ltd, a wholly-owned subsidiary of
Addvalue Technologies Ltd publicly demonstrated the latest addition to
the line of Inmarsat BGAN satellite terminals in Singapore on June 20
during the CommunicAsia industry conference.
The sub-laptop sized Wideye SABRE 1 is the most economical BGAN
satellite terminal on the market and enables users to conduct
simultaneous telephony and IP data communications. Its built-in user
interface allows quick set-up and supports multiple data interfaces
including Bluetooth, Ethernet, USB and RJ11. Addvalue engineers are
currently working with representatives of satellite operator Inmarsat
to complete testing and begin commercial sales of the new equipment in
the coming weeks.
BGAN offers users high-speed IP-based broadband communications
plus simultaneous voice (telephony) calling via a portfolio of small,
lightweight user terminals. The robust communications service from
Telenor is especially useful for a variety of IP-based applications
such as streaming video, videoconferencing and Web browsing. The
service allows businesses and organizations to extend networks to
their remote operations sites. BGAN is the world's first truly mobile
broadband IP service and is the latest addition to the Telenor
Portfolio of Broadband On Demand and Value Added Services.
"The Wideye SABRE 1 BGAN terminal and accessories offer users the
'best value' for their communications dollar combining reliability,
great performance, and affordable price," said Dr. Colin Chan,
chairman and CEO of Addvalue. "The SABRE 1's small size, low cost,
functionality and wide range of accessories, will appeal to a wide
variety of potential users - from enterprise customers and industries
requiring remote connections to small businesses, home offices and
individuals that want an easy-to-use means of communicating via
satellite."
"Addvalue has enjoyed great success with the development of a
number of commercial wireless products including accessories for
Xbox(R), Bluetooth(R) and Sirius(R) Satellite Radio," said Morten
Tengs, chief executive officer of Telenor Satellite Services. "The
Addvalue Wideye SABRE 1 combines an efficient mix of cost-effective
communications functions and an exceptional package of accessories in
small, easy-to-carry and set-up satellite terminal that will enable
businesses and individual users the ability to rapidly establish
IP-based communications via satellite.
"Combining the strengths and features of the SABRE I BGAN terminal
with Telenor's exclusive Terralink(TM) IP Networking Platform and
global points of presence provides BGAN users the widest range of
service connection options, increased levels of security, and
cost-efficient, high-quality communications service."
Earlier this year Telenor Satellite Services and Addvalue signed a
strategic business agreement enabling the two companies to further
develop joint sales, marketing, and engineering support services for
Addvalue's BGAN-related offerings throughout Asia and globally,
including bundling Telenor airtime with Addvalue equipment. (See
