Diebold Raises Bar for Spend Management; Company Targets $100 MM in Savings Through 2008; Expands Relationship with Ariba to Accelerate Results

Ariba(R), Inc. (Nasdaq:ARBA), the leading spend
management solutions provider, today announced that it has expanded
its relationship with Diebold, Incorporated (NYSE:DBD), a global
leader in providing integrated self-service delivery and security
systems and services. A pioneer in spend management, Diebold is
raising the bar for its efforts, targeting reductions of $100 million
in its cost structure through 2008. To reach this goal, the company
has added Ariba Spend Visibility(TM) and Ariba Category
Procurement(TM) to its portfolio of solutions. The company will
leverage the offerings, in addition to Ariba Sourcing(TM) and Ariba
Consulting Services, which it currently uses to bring more of its
spend under management and accelerate its results.
"Diebold recognized the value of spend management early on and
invested in solutions that would enable us to drive supply chain
efficiency on a global scale," said Michael J. Rager, director,
Enterprise Spend Management, Diebold. "Through Ariba's unique blend of
technology, commodity expertise and services, we have been able to
accelerate and increase the value of procurement to the organization
and drive sustainable savings. We will continue to leverage their
solutions to build on our success and further speed the pace with
which we deliver results."
Diebold launched its initial spend management program in 2000,
implementing Ariba Sourcing to streamline its procurement process and
enhance its supply base. In 2003, the company launched a low-cost
country sourcing project in China to strengthen its supply chain and
move closer to its customers. By 2004, similar projects were underway
in Europe and India. With the addition of Ariba Spend Visibility and
Ariba Category Procurement, the company can identify additional
opportunities for savings across direct and indirect categories and
drive process improvements that positively impact its bottom line.
"Diebold embraced spend management when it was still in its
infancy, and is now investing in technology, people and processes to
fundamentally transform its procurement organization," said Kevin
Costello, chief commercial officer, Ariba. "We look forward to
supporting Diebold as they take their efforts to the next level,
providing innovative solutions that can enable them to achieve their
strategic goals."
