The Tier III Certification of Operational Sustainability–Gold is the proofmark of the highest level of operational sustainability for a data center. Located in the central part of Moscow, DataSpace 9,5 MW stand-alone facility was successfully certified after the Uptime Institute examination team completed a thorough multiple stage analysis of procedures, operational structures and behaviors which covered more than 60 criteria including such factors as personnel training, maintenance, facility features and location.

There were only four data centers in the world — three in the US and one in the UK — awarded Tier III Certification of Operational Sustainability Certification–Gold. Now the Russian data center market has been transformed by DataSpace becoming the 5th Tier III Operations Gold certified data center world-wide.

“This is a major accomplishment,” said David Hamner, co-founder and Chairman. “Our customers pay for excellence. Security, reliability and operational sustainability are required to support our clients’ information processing environment. Having a fully certified Tier III Concurrently Maintainable facility is great, but the operation of that facility is just as important. Statistically, data center failures are most commonly caused by human error. Our new Tier III Certification of Operational Sustainability–Gold eliminates that risk. We will continue to innovate and lead the data center standards in Russia and we are committed to our development plan in Moscow and Moscow region.”

DataSpace pioneered the Russian data center arena since 2009, becoming the first Uptime Institute Network member in Eastern Europe, the first recepient of Tier III Certification of Design Documents (November 2010) and the first commercial data center awarded Tier III Certification of Constructed Facility (September 2011) in Russia.

Pitt Turner, Executive Director Emeritus of Uptime Institute and Senior Certification Authority: “As in the previous stages of certification, we found DataSpace team to be extremely prepared and committed to operational excellence worthy of Uptime Institute’s award — Tier III Certification of Operational Sustainability–Gold. They truly exemplify what Uptime Institute is all about: professionalism and adherence to the highest standards on behalf of their customers.” Mr. Turner travelled to Moscow to present the Tier III Certification of Operational Sustainability–Gold plaque to Fred Dickerman, DataSpace VP of Operations.

Fred Dickerman, DataSpace VP of Operations: “We are proud that our first data center facility has raised the bar for the colocation market both in Russia and Continental Europe with unrivaled reliablity and operational sustainability. Having now completed all stages of Tier III certification, DataSpace will continue to move forward to a new level of quality of services and reliability for our Clients.”

The services offered by data centers in Russia have become increasingly popular. According to the new research by IDC the estimated volume of Russian DC market in 2013 exceeded $456 million. The market share that belongs to certificated data centers is 12.4%.
