Joule to Host Strategic Seminar on Climate Change in Norway, Featuring Jeffrey Sachs

Joule, the innovator of a CO2 -to-fuels reverse combustion process, will convene industry and political leaders for a seminar in Oslo, Norway: “Converting Words to Action on Climate Change: The Role of Technology.” The event will be headlined by Professor Jeffrey Sachs, senior United Nations advisor and director of the Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN).

As outlined in the recent Deep Decarbonization Pathways Project (DDPP) report published by SDSN and the Institute for Sustainable Development and International Relations, the widespread availability, affordability and implementation of low-carbon technologies will be critical to a reduction in emissions consistent with limiting global warming to less than 2 degrees Celsius. This includes the role of newer technologies that are still advancing towards maturity and economic feasibility, requiring the collective support of government, academia and business for technology cooperation, funding and removal of barriers to adoption.

“History shows no shortage of transformative technologies that have profoundly improved and preserved our way of life, from medical vaccines to solar power, and many others that required years to reach fruition,” said Noubar Afeyan, PhD, Executive Chairman of Joule, who will present at the Oslo seminar. “We’re now facing one of the greatest challenges of our time, the threat of escalating climate change, and newly emerging technologies must be supported alongside existing approaches to have a material impact. We are very pleased to join like-minded leaders in Norway, where decarbonization is a key goal, to host a dialogue on this all-important topic.”

In addition to Dr. Afeyan and Prof. Sachs, the seminar will include presentations from: Nikolai Astrup, Deputy Head, Høyre’s Group in the Norwegian Parliament; Jonas Gahr Støre, Head of Arbeiderpartiet; and executives from AUDI AG, Finance Norway, Scatec Solar, and the UMOE Group.

About Joule
Joule has pioneered a CO2-to-fuel production platform, effectively reversing combustion through the use of solar energy. The company’s platform applies engineered catalysts to continuously convert waste CO2 directly into renewable fuels such as ethanol or hydrocarbons for diesel, jet fuel and gasoline. Free of feedstock constraints and complex processing, Joule’s process can achieve unrivaled scalability, volumes and costs without the use of any agricultural land, fresh water or crops. Joule is privately held and has raised over $160 million in funding to date, led by Flagship Ventures. The company operates from Bedford, Massachusetts and The Hague, The Netherlands, with production operations in Hobbs, New Mexico. Additional information is available at www.jouleunlimited.com.
