modu, manufacturer of the world´s lightest modular mobile phone, has been selected this week as a Global Finalist in the GSM Association´s (GSMA) prestigious 2009 Mobile Innovation Global Award Competition. Competing in the Most Innovative True Mobile Start–up category, modu was selected as one of two finalists from a pool of 15 leading emerging mobile companies from around the world. The decision was announced at the Mobile Innovation Marketplace -Americas event held in Atlanta.
The Mobile Innovation Global Award Competition recognizes excellence and showcases innovation in the global mobile industry. All competing companies were reviewed by a judging panel of senior executives from mobile operators and venture capital organizations, to whom modu delivered an eight–minute pitch presentation followed by a question–and–answer session. One winner was named from each category and awarded the title of "Global Semi–Finalist." From these five extraordinary innovative concepts, modu and Ubidyne were deemed "Global Finalists" and will advance to compete against four additional finalists selected from other regional Mobile Innovation Marketplace events. From these, one Innovator will be named "GSMA Mobile Innovation World Champion" at the annual Mobile World Congress in Barcelona next February.
