In the face of growing momentum of populist movements across Europe, the Council for the Future of Europe stands as a pro-European voice in support of a strong and integrated Europe.
The Council for the Future of Europe, which is organized by the Berggruen Institute on Governance, has today published “Populism vs. the Interests of the People,” an analysis of the most prominent populist criticisms of the EU accompanied by cogent counterarguments for each point. The topics considered range from the populists’ attack on immigrants to their advocacy for stronger ties to Putin’s Russia.
“The pro-European voice is largely absent from the political dialogue in many regions of Europe,” said Mario Monti, the Chairman of the Council. “There need to be sensible, evidence-based responses to the criticisms put forward by the populists.”
It is the aspiration of the Council that the ideas in the document will gain ground among undecided voters by providing a reference for politicians and the media in dialogue with populist candidates.
