HemaCare Hosts Panel of Experts in Cell Therapy at ISCT 2014

HemaCare Corporation, a leading provider of cellular therapy services to healthcare providers and the scientific community, today announced that it will host a panel discussion comprised of the world’s leading experts in cell therapy at the International Society for Cellular Therapy’s (ISCT) 20th Annual Scientific Meeting in Paris, April 23-26.

As cell therapy products must be delivered without significant loss of viable, functional cells, stability and transport take on critical importance. The panel discussion, titled “Sourcing, Isolating, Preserving, Shipping, and Tracking Precious Human Biological Products: Global Solutions for Research and Cell Therapy,” will explore practical considerations for cell and tissue supply chains, including sourcing and characterization of cells for R&D and manufacturing, optimizing cell stability and extending product shelf life, and effective product shipping and tracking.

“For years the industry has been working to harness the powerful capabilities of cell therapy, but the complexity and variability of working with living cells presents a number of unique challenges,” said Pete van der Wal, president and CEO of HemaCare. “This event will provide attendees with expert insights on developing effective procedures to ensure the best possible research outcomes when using human cells in medical research.”

Moderated by industry thought leader Scott R. Burger, M.D., Chairman of HemaCare Corporation’s Scientific Advisory Board, the event will feature insights from industry luminaries, including:

  • Stephen L. Minger, Ph.D., Chief Scientist, Cellular Sciences, GE Healthcare Life Sciences
    • Cell Characterization and Quality
  • Aby J. Mathew, Ph.D., Senior Vice President and Chief Technology Officer, BioLife Solutions, Inc.
    • HemaCare-BioLife Cell Preservation Studies
  • Mike Rice, President and CEO, BioLife Solutions, Inc.
