Oslo2022 launches Applicant City logo

Boost for Olympic bid

- We are thrilled that as of today Oslo´s and Norway´s Olympic bid now has its own logo which we will use in the ongoing application process. For many people, the visual profile is the first impression they will get of Oslo´s Olympic bid and it is vital for the way in which our message is received. I believe the logo will boost our Olympic bid. It is playful, innovative and eye-catching and will attract attention, both here in Norway and internationally, says Vice Mayor City of Oslo Hallstein Bjercke.

Reflecting the Oslo2022 core values

Norwegian company Snøhetta Design developed the logo and the visual profile on behalf of Oslo2022. Visually, the starting point in the process was the composition of words and letters in Oslo2022, and the design only contains character elements that are put together as in a construction kit. The logo is also based on a Nordic design expression - Nordic Simplicity.

- We wanted to make sure the logo would reflect our core values such as urban and close to nature, playful and responsible, and generous and ambitious. I think we have achieved that, and we will now use the new logo and the visual profile in our communication both nationally and internationally, Chief Executive Officer of Oslo2022, Eli Grimsby.

Captivating Moments

Over the last two years, the City of Oslo and the Norwegian Olympic and Paralympic Committee and Confederation of Sports have made extensive preparations for the bid. The capital of Norway can host most of the disciplines – both on snow and on ice – within the city´s limits. Lillehammer will host the alpine events, along with bobsleigh, luge and skeleton.

- The biggest winter sports event in the world will be brought to life in an integrated, urban atmosphere. The competition venues will be located in a semi-circle around the city – a mere ten to twenty minutes from the athletes and the media villages. We wish to invite everyone to live the Games and create their own captivating Olympic moments, says Vice Mayor City of Oslo Hallstein Bjercke.

Oslo to take part in the IOC Observer programme

As an applicant city, Oslo is invited to participate in the Observer programme organised by the IOC during the Winter Games in Sochi, and tomorrow a delegation from the City of Oslo will travel to Sochi to observe the organisation of the Games more closely.

- We are looking forward to going to Sochi in order to observe the organisation of the Games at close hand and to watch and learn, says Eli Grimsby, Chief Executive Officer of Oslo2022.
