Welch Allyn, a leading medical diagnostic device company that specializes in helping clinicians improve patient outcomes, today announced that customers outside the United States and Canada can now order its most popular otoscope and ophthalmoscope instruments, diagnostic sets and wall systems with an integrated light-emitting diode (LED) lamp . The LED lamps are tested to 30 times longer life than traditional halogen lamps and enable three times the on-time per single charge when used with Welch Allyn rechargeable handles. Offered as an optional alternative to traditional halogen lamps, Welch Allyn SureColor™ LED lamp technology preserves the familiar feel of halogen lamps while virtually eliminating the need for replacement. The new models will be available worldwide in 2014.
“We are excited to offer our customers an integrated LED lamp in our most popular instrument heads, diagnostic sets and wall systems,” said Cindy Kuiper, director, Global Marketing, Physical Assessment, Endoscopy and Medical Education at Welch Allyn. “LEDs virtually remove the nuisance of having to deal with burned out lamps when trying to complete a physical exam. They give our customers the opportunity to become more energy- and cost-efficient in their practices and help reduce overall cost of ownership of their most commonly used diagnostic instruments.”
The optional LED lamps will be available in the company’s four most popular core diagnostic device platforms—traditional otoscopes, MacroView™ otoscopes, traditional ophthalmoscopes, and PanOptic™ ophthalmoscopes. The efficiency of LED lamps also results in lower temperature output which may increase comfort for both the patient and the caregiver.
Welch Allyn LED lamps feature patented SureColor™ technology, which provides consistent color output while light intensity is lowered to improve the view or increase patient comfort. It allows the color of the light to remain the same even as the light intensity is dimmed.
“Offering customers integrated LED lamps in otoscopes and ophthalmoscopes is a perfect complement to our existing halogen lamp offering and reaffirms our commitment to delivering technologies that enhance the delivery of care,” added Kuiper. “It aligns with our strategic decision to focus on our core diagnostic devices, and we feel it is our responsibility to provide solutions that help control and reduce operating costs.”
