Launched today in Beerse, the Janssen Diabetes Forum (www.janssendiabetesforum.com) is a novel medical education initiative, which has been developed to contribute to the understanding of the latest developments in the management of type 2 diabetes. Aimed at health care professionals, the Janssen Diabetes Forum has been set up by Janssen Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA). Content is developed on the advice of an independent Scientific Committee of international experts from 8 different European countries to ensure scientific accuracy of the data presented.
Features will include a series of educational tools such as a digital slide library, materials from key educational events in diabetes, upcoming events and videos. The forum also allows physicians to compile their own diabetes slide decks.
John Wilding, Head of the Department of Obesity and Endocrinology at the University of Liverpool, UK and member of the Steering committee of the Janssen Diabetes Forum comments: "The launch of the Janssen Diabetes Forum will help to educate physicians in the management of the escalating diabetes problem. It is estimated that the diabetes population is expected to grow to over 550 million in less than 20 years, emphasising the importance and need for up to date educational tools."
The collection of modules serves as the underpinning basis for the Janssen Diabetes Forum educational programme and examples include an introduction to the pathophysiology of diabetes, along with an explanation of the current management and unmet needs in the treatment of type 2 diabetes. Additionally key information is detailed on the role of the kidney and glucose reabsorption within type 2 diabetes.
On the Janssen Diabetes Forum, Brian Woodfall, Vice-President, Janssen EMEA Medical Affairs comments "Janssen is delighted to launch a new resource for diabetes. To date we have had over 600 physicians expressing their interest in such a tool. The aim of the Janssen Diabetes Forum is to further increase understanding in the field of diabetes and the digital slide library offers an interactive element for health care professionals.
Upcoming diabetes events are also detailed on the Janssen Diabetes Forum. Featured events include a Masterclass in Type 2 Diabetes Management and the Prediabetes and Metabolic Syndrome Congress.
