The University of Warsaw, City of Warsaw and the Perspektywy
Education Foundation in cooperation with Conference of Rectors of
Academic Schools in Poland will hold the first conference in Poland on
the internationalisation of higher education named "Poland
International Education Conference WARSAW 2008" April 16-18, 2008. The
conference will analyse the internationalisation of higher education
in Poland and neighbouring countries and discuss the most effective
ways to accelerate the process of internationalisation of higher
education in Europe.
Among the 20 speakers are leaders in the promotion of
internationalisation of higher education: Bernd Weachter (Academic
Cooperation Association - Brussels), Daniel Obst (Institute of
International Education-USA), Hubert Durrstein (OAD - Austria), Liu
Nian Cai (Jiao Tong U - China), Michael Zgurovsky (Kiev Politechnic
Institute - Ukraine), Alex Usher (Educational Policy Institute -
Canada), Jan Sadlak (UNESCO-CEPES), Rolf Heusser (Swiss Center for
Quality) and Vera Stastna (Ministry of Education - Czech Republic).
A special session on the role of city authorities in the process
of internationalisation of higher education will be chaired by Hanna
Gronkiewicz-Waltz, Mayor of Warsaw.
The conference will address such issues as: How fast will
universities in Central Europe open up to compete internationally?
What must they do to adjust to challenges of internationalisation? How
can cities help to modernise universities? What role will
International rankings play in shaping the world university map?
