Microban and Panariagroup launch antibacterial, lightweight tile for hospitals, gyms and other public spaces at CERSAIE 2012

An innovative new antibacterial, lightweight porcelain floor and wall tile that is ideal for hospitals, gymnasiums, restaurants, healthcare and other public spaces is being launched by Panariagroup at CERSAIE 2012.

Using expertise from Microban, the world market leader in antibacterial technology, up to 1000 x 3000 x 3mm tiles are available in laminated porcelain stoneware providing a revolutionary new option for architects and designers. They can be found at the exhibition on the stands of the brands Cotto d´Este (Hall 14 Stand B7-C8) and Panaria (Hall 15 Stand C7-D8).

Microban technology featuring silver is built into the ceramic material of the tile during manufacturing to achieve antibacterial efficacy of up to 99.9% for the lifetime of the product, measured using established international laboratory protocols.

Crucially, the growth of biofilms "´ slimy communities of bacteria that thrive on tiles leading to potential cross contamination, cleanliness and discolouration issues - is prevented. Also, unlike some competitor products, the antibacterial action does not need ultraviolet light to be activated and works continuously.

Emilio Mussini, president of Panariagroup, said: "This tile will allow architects and specifiers to bring the benefits of antibacterial technologies to many different environments but we see huge potential benefits in locations such as hospitals, restaurants and public spaces where preventing cross contamination is key."

"Importantly, because the tile is only 3mm thick, extremely light and available in a laminate design, it can be used on top of existing floor and wall tile surfaces to form a crucial element in successful, cost-effective refurbishments."

Panariagroup has been working with Microban for three years and already uses its antibacterial technology in a wide range of floor and wall tiles under the Cotto D´Este, Lea, Panaria, Fiordo, Margres and Love Tiles brands for both domestic and commercial applications. These are sold in all the European countries.
