European Commission´s Neelie Kroes Confirmed to Keynote Broadband World Forum 2012

Neelie Kroes, Vice President of the European Commission, is set to deliver a keynote speech on the opening day of the world´s largest broadband conference and exhibition, the Broadband World Forum. Kroes will kick-start the three-day event, which focuses on service transformation and the connected consumer, by addressing the future of broadband connectivity and network speeds.

Kroes is focused on ensuring the Internet remains a trusted and secure environment and that there is fair competition in the mobile market, while promoting Europe as a hub of technology innovation. Spear-heading the EU´s Digital Agenda, Kroes´ aim is to ensure that European citizens gain access to fast broadband connections by promoting digital inclusiveness, enhancing economic competitiveness, and increasing digital literacy.

The event´s focus on broadband strategy, technology and innovation is echoed by the Digital Agenda´s target of achieving broadband access of a minimum of 30Mbps across Europe by 2020. Encouraging government investment in ICT is also a key area for the Commissioner in the current environment, to promote growth and advancements in the sector.

Executive Director of Informa Telecoms and Media, Gavin Whitechurch, explains: "Neelie Kroes is a primary player in the development of broadband in Europe, and her commitment to broadband services and driving digital growth across Europe aligns perfectly with the event. Her work within the broadband industry makes her the ideal spokesperson to open 2012´s conference and exhibition, and the involvement of key, influential and transformational speakers underlines the innovative and game-changing nature of the show."

This year the event relocates to the Amsterdam RAI, accommodating an exhibition that has already expanded by over 35%. With a regenerated and expanded agenda featuring over 300 speakers, the show, which attracted over 7,500 participants last year, expects to draw even more visitors and exhibitors to the new location.

"Broadband World Forum has established itself as the world´s leading broadband event and has seen year-on-year growth for over a decade. As such, we´ve taken the event to Amsterdam for the first time ever this year in order to meet this increasing demand, and look forward to welcoming the global broadband community to this new location," concludes Whitechurch.

The 12th annual event will see six tracks across three days delivered by over 300 visionary speakers and panelists and over 200 exhibitors showcasing revolutionary broadband technologies, applications, solutions and services. For the first time three co-located summits will be introduced to the programme - Broadband Cloud Summit, Broadband Home Summit and Wireless Broadband Summit - designed to address pressing and topical issues in today´s industry.

The event will take place at the RAI Exhibition Centre in Amsterdam on 16-18 October 2012.
