This new service, adding data from the ClinicalTrials.gov database, will be available on the Cloud via Linguamatics´ I2E OnDemand platform, which was launched in 2011 with access to MEDLINE data. The addition of clinical trials data by Linguamatics reflects the company´s strategy to add further content access options to their text mining and knowledge discovery solutions.
ClinicalTrials.gov is a well-established and highly regarded registry and results database of federally and privately supported clinical trials conducted in the United States and around the world. The database provides information about a trial´s purpose, study design descriptions, enrollment numbers, locations, and sponsor and collaborator names.
I2E has been shown to be a valuable, highly effective tool in mining clinical trials data for decision support in biomedical research, clinical trials study design, site selection and competitive intelligence. Users are able to extract valuable insights and monitor the progress of potential new medicines in ways not previously possible.
I2E accurately identifies and extracts information from the free text fields of resources such as ClinicalTrials.gov, whilst also exploiting its existing structure and associated metadata. According to David Milward, CTO, Linguamatics, the company intends to further extend its hosted content sources to full-text patent applications and grants, and exploit links across the data sets.
