Qatar Public Works Authority Appoints MWH Global as Management Contractor for Drainage Asset Management Programme

The Public Works Authority (PWA) Qatar has appointed MWH Global as management contractor for the five-year Qatar Drainage Asset Management Programme to support the organization´s goal in achieving world-class asset and operational management services. The programme is part of Qatar´s National Vision 2030 infrastructure investments including highways, interchanges, railways, utilities and related services in response to the country´s growing economy and population and recent award to host the FIFA 2022 World Cup. It is expected that work will begin immediately.

MWH and its subcontractor, Scottish Water, will work within PWA´s Asset Affairs Directorate to generate and deploy the Drainage Asset Management Programme to help enhance levels of drainage services provided to all residents and businesses throughout Qatar. During the programme, MWH Global will manage the full operation and maintenance of all drainage assets including the wastewater treatment and collection systems, treated sewage effluent systems, stormwater and surface groundwater systems.

"MWH is bringing together a team of international experts and the latest asset management technology to help the Qatar Public Works Authority achieve its rapid expansion plans and develop this significant wet infrastructure project," said Alan Krause, MWH Global president and CEO. "We look forward to the opportunity to serve the needs of the citizens of Qatar to help meet the objectives of their National Development Strategy and facilitate the development of their drainage infrastructure. The drainage asset management programme will also support PWA organizational transformation as well as helping Qatar prepare for the FIFA 2022 World Cup."

The mission of the PWA is to "Deliver and manage state-of-the-art, sustainable world class buildings and infrastructure that fulfill the Qatar National Vision 2030." PWA has initiated and planned several concurrent major programmes to outsource and partner with organizations who can assist in delivering on the mission. MWH recently has been awarded the Qatar Integrated Drainage Master Plan project to identify the country´s drainage infrastructure and water resource needs for the next 50 years.
