LexisNexis(R) Expands Intellectual Property Solutions to Help Customers Protect Valuable Assets

Designed to help customers protect valuable Intellectual Property
(IP) assets, LexisNexis today introduced a new solution called IP
DataDirect-Patents and unveiled enhancements to its suite of IP
services. Additionally, LexisNexis announced it received an award
nomination for TotalPatent.

By expanding one of the most comprehensive databases of IP sources
available, LexisNexis(R) customers have the ability to research
full-text patents from 22 patenting authorities and more than 500
full-text Elsevier Science Journals.

The TotalPatent(TM) service now includes the world´s most complete
full-text source of granted patents - including searchable PDFs -
issued by the United Kingdom Intellectual Property Office, formerly
the British Patent Office, from 1982 to current.

The company introduced IP DataDirect-Patents, which allows
customers to directly access IP information and populate that
information into internal proprietary systems, to join the rapidly
growing suite of global IP solutions from LexisNexis, which includes
lexis.com(R), TotalPatent, PatentOptimizer(TM), Global IP Law Service,
REEDFAX(R), and exclusive analytical content.

"Protecting valuable assets - including patents, trademarks,
copyrights, and trade secrets - is one of the most important tasks
facing business and legal professionals today," said Peter
Vanderheyden, vice president of Global Intellectual Property at
LexisNexis. "The enhancements to LexisNexis Intellectual Property
solutions are designed to help our customers make better business
decisions by confidently developing, protecting and maintaining their
valuable IP assets."

LexisNexis(R) IP DataDirect-Patents

A new addition to the suite of IP services is LexisNexis(R) IP
DataDirect-Patents, which allows customers to directly access IP
information and populate that information into internal proprietary
systems. Customers who license data through IP DataDirect-Patents gain
access to an unmatched collection of full-text data from 22 patent
authorities - more sources than available from any other single
provider.

IP DataDirect-Patents includes:

-- Bibliographic and abstract data from 96 authorities

-- English-language machine translations

-- Clipped images

-- Legal status, forward and backward citations, and
patent-family data

-- PDF images in searchable, bookmarked, and compressed format

The data is supplied in XML ST.36 format, which is the World
Intellectual Property Organization´s standard for patent data. Daily
updates are available through an FTP site 24 hours per day.

TotalPatent, PatentOptimizer Enhancements

LexisNexis is helping TotalPatent customers enhance their data
analysis through a number of new features and services. For example,
TotalPatent data is now available in an XML download, allowing
customers to receive data for use in internal analytic or database
systems. For customers looking to maximize the TotalPatent experience,
LexisNexis is making its comprehensive help manual available as a
downloadable PDF.

Additionally, customers can use a new inventor/assignee look-up
tool that allows them to search by the author of the patent. This
allows them to perform analytics and to glean business intelligence
from analysis of inventors and assignees. TotalPatent is now organized
into patent families, enabling users to trace the original filing, as
well as equivalent filings in other jurisdictions.

LexisNexis enhancements to PatentOptimizer are designed to help
customers streamline the patent process and protect valuable assets.
For example, PatentOptimizer will support patent links that navigate
directly into the TotalPatent service, allowing customers to check
terms and references, as well as verify citations. Additionally,
customers verifying claims can immediately compare and navigate
multiple claim sets across a series of user-identified documents.

TotalPatent Named CODiE Finalist

TotalPatent, the world´s largest collection of searchable
full-text and bibliographic IP information, was named a finalist in
the 2008 Software & Information Industry Association´s CODiE Awards
for "Best Online Science or Technology Service."

"Competition is tough this year and that makes selection as a
CODiE Finalist a real achievement," said Ken Wash, SIIA president.
"All the companies on this year´s list should feel justifiably proud
of their recognition."
