Each year during their Honor Night Gala, the AEF recognizes the work of businessmen, advertisers, agencies, media and students for their achievements in the entertainment industry, and bestows a special award to a person whose work has made a difference in their communities.
Upon receiving the award, Gustavo Cisneros highlighted the role of education as the first step towards breaking the poverty cycle and helping people become more competitive in a demanding society.
For more than 30 years, the Cisneros Group of Companies, through the Fundación Cisneros and under the premise of "education is the best catalyst for development and competitiveness in Latin America," has strived to improve education in the region and promote Latin America´s contributions to world culture.
"At the Cisneros Group of Companies, we have implemented impact investment by boosting quality in education through our programs. We have taken advantage of the opportunities provided both by media outreach, as well as new technology initiatives, and we have encouraged the work of teachers, empowering them as agents of social change, and providing them with new tools that enrich their work," stated Gustavo Cisneros.
The Cisneros Group of Companies began to foster education in the 70s when more than 300,000 Venezuelans were taught to read and write through the ACUDE program.
Presently, the Fundación Cisneros manages the following programs:
- cl@se: First pan-regional educational channel in Latin America with programming intended for students, teachers and parents. cl@se reaches 30,000 public schools in Costa Rica, Mexico and Dominican Republic, and is available via cable and satellite in Argentina, Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Panama and Peru.
- Actualización de Maestros en Educación [Teacher Training in Education]: Online educational program designed for elementary teachers in Latin America to improve the teaching-learning process through the use of Information & Communication Technology (ICT).
- Piensa en arte/Think Art: An educational platform, part of the Colección Patricia Phelps de Cisneros that uses art as a teaching-learning tool to promote problem-solving abilities and greater cognitive skills.
Through these initiatives, the Fundación Cisneros aims at contributing to teachers´ training and support their role as agents of change in society, thus creating more prosperous environments in Latin America through individual and collective development.
