EBD Group today announced that the next edition of BIO-Europe Spring® will be in Barcelona, Spain. Leaders from the global biotechnology industry will gather for the seventh annual BIO-Europe Spring partnering conference on March 11"´13, 2013 at the CCIB Convention Centre. The event will attract more than 2,100 executives from 1,300 companies representing over 40 countries who will engage in upwards of 11,000 one-to-one partnering meetings.

Two years ago at BIO-Europe Spring, companies in Catalonia were primarily focused in the discovery phase, she said, while now half of companies in research and development have advanced to clinical trials.
Currently 242 new therapeutic products are in various stages of development with a significant number Phase I and II trials.
The backdrop to the conference is Barcelona´s thriving life science community. Organized under the banner of BioRegion of Catalonia, the region has become one the main economic drivers for Spain. Over the past several years this sector has achieved an annual growth rate of 30 percent and now consists of 13 scientific parks and 60 research centers, featuring the National Genome Analysis Center. The center offers applications on 11 state-of-the-art genome sequencing units that include de novo sequencing or resequencing of entire genomes, the identification of DNA binding sites and the sequencing of RNA.
