Fraunhofer SIT at CeBIT 2012: BizzTrust - Two Smartphones in One

Fraunhofer SIT and the Center for Advanced Security Research Darmstadt (CASED) will be presenting a new version of BizzTrust, the user-friendly security solution for smartphones, at CeBIT in Germany. BizzTrust protects business data and services on Android smartphones without restricting the ability to use the device privately. The new version also allows private and business contacts to be synchronised separately, and all private activities are highlighted in a different colour. BizzTrust will be demonstrated at CeBIT in Hannover from the 6th to 10th of March (hall 26, stand E08). Any companies interested in the solution will be able to obtain a test version from Fraunhofer SIT following the trade fair. A demo video on BizzTrust is also available on the Internet at http://www.bizztrust.de/en/demo.html.

An increasing number of employees are using their business devices privately nowadays - especially smartphones - and they often install numerous applications for personal use. However, if a user inadvertently brings malware or spyware into the corporate network, this can pose a significant risk to the company. BizzTrust splits a device up into two parts and separates the business applications and data from the private apps. This means employees can install various kinds of applications, without jeopardising the company. What´s more, even if an attacker manages to gain access via an insecure application, they will still be unable to access company data "´ the effects of the attack are therefore restricted to the private data on the smartphone.

Different colours are used to show the user which part of the smartphone they are currently using. Business calls are highlighted in green, an SMS from a private contact, on the other hand, will be displayed in red. BizzTrust is based on an Android operating system, which has been updated with additional security functions and highlights all data from trustworthy sources accordingly. The company itself can choose which enterprise applications should be classified as trustworthy and also provide and update its own applications for its employees.
