Globe7 HK Limited and SINA Hong Kong Limited this week unveiled a
suite of Chinese-language Web tools for video-file sharing, gaming,
streaming of video contents, and one of the lowest-cost Internet phone
service anywhere.
Called WOOP (Woop - meaning a very useful sound to express
excitement and happiness; to connect people from place to place), the
co-branded service offers widgets enabling SMS messaging, Internet
calls, over 500 free games in both Chinese and English, streaming
video of breaking news, sports, entertainment, and many others from
around the world.
WOOP also offers a rich multimedia content from SINA.com.hk and
other Chinese-language content including videos, entertainment news
blogs and user-generated content.
The announcement was made by Kaki Chiu, General Manager of SINA
Hong Kong Limited, and Clayton Haswell, president and CEO of Globe7.
"The tools available on WOOP will allow SINA Hong Kong users to
utilize some of the most sophisticated Web 2.0 services available.
This is a major step forward in our partnership with SINA," Haswell
said.
"We are convinced WOOP will be a hit with our users," said Kaki.
"This will enhance SINA´s presence as a destination site offering the
hottest new applications."
Globe7 is one of the world´s most popular VOIP service providers.
A Beta version of WOOP is currently available to selected SINA Hong
Kong users. It will be available to the public in March at
http://woop.sina.com.hk.
