WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. environmental regulators said on Thursday they are considering testing water in Dimock, Pennsylvania after complaints that the water is polluted by hydraulic fracturing, or fracking, for natural gas.
The Environmental Protection Agency said it has recently received and reviewed hundreds of pages of data on water from residents in Dimock. "Therefore, EPA is considering next steps including conducting some samples of well water in the area," the EPA said in an email. "We will evaluate the sampling results and share them with the residents, the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania," and Cabot Oil and Gas, a driller in the area that had been until recently supplying fresh water to a dozen households in Dimock for three years.
