Light Blue Optics Demonstrates Miniature Projection Systems At CES 08

Light Blue Optics (LBO) today announced it will show a range of
miniature projection systems at the International Consumer Electronics
Show, 7 - 10 Jan (CES 08). The systems are ideal for deployment in a
range of markets including consumer electronics and automotive and
feature significant laser speckle reduction, an ultra-wide throw angle
and a new custom designed phase-modulating microdisplay component that
delivers high brightness WVGA images. This news follows LBO´s recent
closure of a $26 million Series ´A´ funding round to accelerate its
product development programme.

LBO´s miniature projection systems use laser light sources to
create bright, full colour, high-quality video images with the widest
possible colour gamut. Only LBO´s patented holographic laser
projection technology can simultaneously deliver a range of enabling
features and benefits including high brightness, in-built laser
speckle reduction, an ultra-wide throw angle, focus-free operation,
low power consumption, and a robust design that naturally lends itself
to miniaturisation and low cost manufacture.

The systems incorporate a fast-switching phase modulating FLCOS
microdisplay with a 7x7mm active area, custom designed for LBO by
development partners Displaytech Inc. In addition, LBO´s miniature
projection systems deliver an ultra-wide throw angle greater than 90
degrees, creating large images at very close proximity to the
projector aperture. This unique feature enables new use cases to be
realised, such as the projection of images onto a table-top from a
small mobile device and ultra thin rear-projection for applications
including automotive instrument clusters and Head-up Displays.

Light Blue Optics´ CEO, Dr Chris Harris said, "At CES 08, we will
demonstrate high-resolution miniature projection systems that
significantly reduce laser speckle from within the projection device
and deliver ultra-wide throw angles and focus-free operation without
compromising the high image quality our customers require. This
combination of features is unique to LBO´s proprietary holographic
laser projection technology, opening up new and exciting use cases in
a range of high-volume markets, and positioning us to become the
world´s leading supplier of miniature projection systems."
