Sonoco-Alcore S.a.r.l, a wholly owned subsidiary of Sonoco (NYSE: SON), one of the largest diversified global packaging companies, will launch a number of new products, including the Hi-Radius Core and the Delta Core, at the ITMA 2011 Exhibition Sept. 22-29, 2011. Known as the "Olympics of the Textiles Industry," ITMA is the world´s largest international textile and garment machinery exhibition, held at Fira de Barcelona gran Via in Barcelona. Sonoco-Alcore will officially launch the Hi-Radius Core, which will be included in a live machinery demonstration running throughout the exhibition, and the Delta Core, as well as showcase a complete range of yarn carriers.
Launching New Products through Innovation
The Hi-Radius Core was designed specifically to meet the needs of polyamide and polyester yarn manufacturers. Typically manufacturers have used a straight-cut core with plastic caps during the unwinding process, which often causes yarn breaks. The Hi-Radius Core design delivers a smoother surface core with a larger rounded edge, successfully eliminating the use of plastic caps, significantly reducing yarn breaks, and delivering cost savings.
Creating Industry Leading Alternatives
Also designed to meet the needs of yarn producers, the Delta Core paper cop solution provides a paper alternative to the use of metal cops in yarn production. Traditional metal cops create a number of costs for the producer including: cash costs associated with maintaining a large inventory; costs to purchase plastic sleeves; cleaning and refurbishment costs; and costs associated with lost or unreturned metal cops. These costs can be avoided by using the Delta Core paper cop solution without sacrificing yarn production quality or quantity.
Understanding Customer Needs
One of the new products that will be featured is Printex®, which was designed specifically to meet the changing demands of yarn producers, who increasingly require carriers in smaller quantities and with increased color variations, at a lower price, without any loss of performance. In the past, printing on yarn carriers was extremely challenging; ink on cores would often bleed into the yarn, damaging the yarn and making it unusable. The Printex carrier has successfully resolved this issue, and is available in numerous color variations, aiding in yarn recognition. A full range of textile yarn carriers will also be displayed.
A number of other key products will be on display during the seven-day exhibition, including yarn carriers made from 100 percent recycled paperboard, with bull-nosed ends as well as carriers with various groove and notch configurations.
