Opnext Introduces Tunable XFP Transceiver at ECOC

Opnext, Inc. (NASDAQ: OPXT), a global leader in high speed optical communications technology, today announced the introduction and availability of its integrated tunable XFP (TXFP) transceiver during ECOC 2011, the European Conference and Exposition (ECOC) in Geneva, Switzerland, September 19-22. Opnext will demonstrate its tunable XFP transceiver at ECOC 2011, highlighting automatic wavelength tuning designed to deliver stable wavelength control while supporting a wavelength range of 1529 to 1567 nm.

The Opnext tunable XFP pluggable transceiver, developed in collaboration with Hitachi´s Central Research Laboratory (CRL), is a hybrid design that combines the tunable laser and InP-MZ (Mach Zehnder) chips to offer superior optical shutter functionality. The tunable XFP transceiver delivers system performance to address mode-hopping for optimized wavelength stability in a variety of DWDM applications. In addition, the tunable XFP design can flexibly support negative chirp or zero-chirp DWDM applications to replace DWDM-XFP or 300-pin tunable transponders.

"Opnext´s tunable XFP transceiver has been designed to provide our customers with wavelength control and reliability in a smaller form factor where high port density is valuable," said Tadayuki Kanno, President of Opnext´s modules business unit. "Using our own, in-house designed compact tunable TOSA, we´re bringing a TXFP module to market that can support the growing demand for tunable DWDM technologies."

Opnext expects its tunable XFPs to be in mass production in early 2012. For additional information please contact any one of the Opnext sales offices.

Exhibiting at ECOC 2011

In addition to tunable XFP, Opnext will also be demonstrating its newest 40GBASE-LR4 QSFP+ transceiver technology in Stand 1522 during the ECOC Exhibition being held at the Palexpo Congress Center in Geneva.

Opnext´s tunable laser technology will also be highlighted during the ECOC 2011 Poster Session on Wednesday, September 21. "LGLC Laser Monolithically Integrated with Low-Loss, Dual-Core, Spot-Size Converter for Tunable XFP Modules," will be presented in the ECOC Poster Area (Foyer ABC) of the Palexpo Congress Center in Geneva starting at 16:40 CEST.
