(Reuters) - Katia has regained Category 1 hurricane status after losing strength on Thursday evening, the National Hurricane Center said on Friday.
At about 11 a.m. ET, Katia, located about 705 miles east of the northern Leeward Islands, was packing maximum sustained winds of 75 miles per hour.
There are no coastal watches or warnings in effect, the NHC said.
Katia is moving west-northwest at near 14 mph and some strengthening is forecast in the next 48 hours, the NHC said.
Tropical cyclones become named tropical storms when their winds exceed 39 miles per hour (63 km/h) and become hurricanes when their winds reach more than 74 mph.
