Octopus 2: the first component capable of demodulating fixed and mobile digital television and radio in every country in the world, including the two Chinese standards CMMB and CTTB
DiBcom, the market leader for components dedicated to DTT reception, will be exhibiting at the IBC show between 9 and 13 September 2011 in Amsterdam. It will be presenting the new version of its universal component for the world of digital TV "´ Octopus 2.
Octopus 2 is the first chip able to receive both Chinese digital TV standards "´ CMMB (the equivalent of Mobile Television) and CTTB (or DTMB, the equivalent of Digital Terrestrial Television). This new solution enables an effective response to the exceptional growth of the Chinese automobile market (20% per year) which is being supported by strong demand for embedded multimedia, such as Radio or Television.
Receiving a given standard is achieved by loading the corresponding microcode when the component is initialized. As such, with two microcodes, the same component can receive digital television in the CMMB or CTTB standards everywhere in China, as is currently the case in 300 Chinese villages.
In addition, thanks to other microcodes this component can also receive digital TV and Radio in Europe (DVB-T, DAB, T-DMB), Japan, Latin America
(ISDB-T) and the USA (ATSC, ATSC-M/H).
Like its predecessor, the new Octopus chip includes a multi-frequency tuner, a patented programmable demodulator, a descrambler for pay TV and intelligent power management.
