Berlusconi says accepts referendum result

ROME (Reuters) - Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi said on Monday he would accept the "clear" decision expressed by voters in referendums on nuclear power, water privatisation and government trial immunity.

In a statement issued after the close of voting, Berlusconi said "the decision of Italians is clear on all the issues in the vote."

"The government and parliament now have the duty to fully accept the result of the four referendums," he said.

Official figures showed an unusually high turnout and suggested that the votes would go overwhelmingly in favour of repealing Berlusconi-era legislation.
