German states want oldest nuclear plants shut down

BERLIN (Reuters) - The environment ministries of Germany's 16 federal states unanimously called on Friday for all seven of the oldest nuclear reactors to be shut down permanently once a moratorium expires next month.

"On the basis of the reports from both the reactor safety commission and the ethics commission to, the states ask the federal government to create a legal foundation on which the power plants affected by the moratorium can remain off the grid permanently and legally," the ministries said in a joint statement.
