BRUSSELS (Reuters) - The European Commission will implement the globally agreed Basel III capital rules for banks in European law, the EU executive's official in charge of financial regulation said on Friday.
"I will not be swayed by various pressures," Michel Barnier said in a statement. "Europe will implement Basel III."
A spokeswoman for the commissioner added that the EU rules would avoid loopholes.
