In April, Laser-Video Multimedia, leading Russian optical disc
replicator, signed a contract for purchasing an INDIGO Blu-ray
manufacturing line from Oerlikon (SWX:OERL) - a first not only for
Russia but the whole of Eastern Europe! With this move, Laser-Video
Multimedia is positioning itself as the leader for next generation
media in Eastern Europe. The line will be installed first as a single
layer manufacturing unit and soon upgraded to produce the new 50GB
dual layer Blu-ray format.
"We've evaluated the available Blu-ray production equipment and
were primarily impressed by Oerlikon," says Vadim Yaroshenko, CEO at
Laser-Video Multimedia. "The INDIGO line is approved by major
replicators, features an excellent cover layer process and is mature
for Blu-ray mass production. Oerlikon is launching soon the 50GB dual
layer upgrade, using Sony's wet embossing process. This is the
professional package we need for our own market success."
"The next generation Blu-ray market offers many new opportunities
for media manufacturers," says Hans Ebinger, Head of SBU Optical Disc
within Oerlikon. "The entrepreneurs coming first will be able to shape
this upcoming market their way. Laser-Video Multimedia will do just
that in their territory. We are proud that we have been selected as
the partner of choice. This is a great reward for our effort to
develop the Blu-ray market."
INDIGO is installed around the world in the Blu-ray manufacturing
of the industry leaders. INDIGO produces both pre-recorded BD ROM as
well as recordable BD R/RE media combining Oerlikon's world class
sputtering and replication technology. Oerlikon was the surprise
factor in last year's optical disc market with the new INDIGO Blu-ray
line and its revolutionary cover layer process. Oerlikon is
implementing the Sony DADC wet embossing technique for the new 50GB
dual layer Blu-ray format.
This new production line will officially be presented to the
industry on occasion of the BD 50GB summit on October 18th, 2007 in
Balzers, Liechtenstein.
