SeaMobile Enterprises, a dominant global service provider of
at-sea communications, connectivity and content services, announced
the acquisition of a teleport facility located in Holmdel, New Jersey,
from SES AMERICOM. Simultaneous to the transaction, SeaMobile entered
into a contract to provide AMERICOM Government Services multiple
circuits to facilitate the continued delivery of services to its
governmental customers.
The Holmdel teleport was initially established in 1982 and is a
10,000 square foot facility located 46 miles from downtown New York
City. At the teleport, the transmission needs of ISPs, television
broadcasters, cable programmers, government agencies, carriers,
business television and radio users are regularly served. The teleport
has access to a variety of spacecraft from 359 degrees East Longitude
as well as the U.S. domestic arc serving the Pacific, Atlantic, and
Western Indian Ocean region for customers requiring access to the
world's largest telecommunication centers.
"Acquiring the Holmdel Teleport is an important step in augmenting
SeaMobile's capabilities and infrastructure," said Dave Kagan,
President & CEO of SeaMobile Inc. "The Holmdel teleport gives
SeaMobile full control of our primary point of presence with direct
access to major ISPs. It also provides important network redundancy in
emergency situations, enables us to better serve customers with 24/7
back up coverage for our Network Operations Center in Florida, and it
is critical infrastructure for our Wave Entertainment Network and
suite of television products to be launched later this year."
In the first quarter of 2007, SeaMobile announced the formation of
Wave Entertainment Network to deliver an at-sea or remote location
television network that rivals what viewers are used to experiencing
at home. Wave Entertainment TV offers a diverse broadcast programming
line-up including: satellite TV, pay-per-view movies and events, live
sports, special interest, kid-focused, live national news, adult
programs, and live special events programming. The network uses a
combination of satellite technology - delivered by SeaMobile's MTN
Satellite Services - and special caching technology that allows
viewers to experience live events and network programming in time
slots they are accustomed to seeing. The Holmdel Broadcast Center will
serve as a technology and customer service hub for the revolutionary
at-sea entertainment offering.
