Netezza (NYSE Arca: NZ), the global data warehouse appliance
market leader, today announced that Switzerland's largest research
organisation, IHA-GfK (formerly the IHA Institute for Market Analysis
AG) has selected its Netezza Performance Server(R) (NPS(R)) system to
manage and analyse escalating volumes of data and to accelerate the
delivery of important customer reports. Specified and installed by IT
partner UFD, the new systems have replaced MS SQL Server in an
initiative to refresh the Company's data management practices, and
have improved system performance by a factor of 50.
Penny Zenker, director at IHA-GfK explains, "We wanted to avoid
large, complex and resource-hungry data warehouse systems that would
stretch the expertise of our technical team. Speed and simplicity were
deciding factors, because the efficient delivery of research reports
to our customers is absolutely critical to our day-to-day business.
Our consultants need to speed through large volumes of data very
quickly, in order to have enough time to prepare, produce and dispatch
reports on time."
Dave Kloc, vice president, European Operations for Netezza added,
"By selecting the NPS system, IHA-GfK was able to refresh its
infrastructure without time-consuming and expensive database tuning.
The NPS system was installed in just a few days and works alongside
the Company's existing software tools - Business Objects, Crystal
Reports and Enterprise Knowledge Manager - delivering a near seamless
transition."
The Netezza Performance Server system is built specifically to
analyse terabytes of detailed data significantly faster than existing
data warehouse options, at a much lower total cost of ownership. The
NPS system stores, filters and processes terabytes of records within a
single unit, analysing only the relevant information for each query.
Netezza has placed the CPU power next to the data, allowing the NPS
system to speed through processes that would occupy most data
warehouse systems for hours, or even days, thereby enabling dramatic
increases in productivity across the organisation.
Customers who have recognized the benefits of Netezza's approach
include Ahold, Amazon.com, CNET Networks, Debenhams, Department of
Veterans Affairs, Epsilon, Neiman Marcus, Orange UK, Ross Stores,
Ryder System, Inc., The Carphone Warehouse and Virgin Media.
