IBC 2007: Rimage Offers Powerful Copy Protection against Content Piracy

Rimage Corporation, leading provider of recordable CD, DVD and
Blu-ray publishing-systems, will present the new copy management
application Rimage Video Protect(TM) (RVP) at this year's
International Broadcast Convention (IBC) in Amsterdam. At the leading
broadcasting show in Europe from September 7th to 11th Rimage (booth
number 7.811a) will also be discussing current developments in
security for digital content.

"The numbers of damages that are caused by content piracy are
quite alarming. We are one step ahead now in the fight against robbery
of digital contents," Alexander Normann, Rimage European Marketing
Manager explains. "The business software alliance estimates the
worldwide damage caused by unauthorized software copying for more than
30 billion US dollars. We have about the same numbers in the filming
industry. The Motion Pictures Association of America expects loss of
income of at least six billion US dollars per year."

Rimage Video Protect(TM) is one part of Rimage software suite and
guarantees a seamless performance and a faster operation using
QuickDisc(TM) or Rimage Rapid API(TM) for authoring. Users can provide
data media with a reliable copy protection during the DVD production
if they are producing with a Rimage digital publishing system and are
using Video Protect(TM) at the same time.

"Enterprises can protect the original content by using Rimage
Video Protect(TM)", Alexander Normann adds. Currently there is no anti
ripping application that would protect digital content better and
would be as compatible with other systems."

Digital work flow is not affected

Rimage Video Protect(TM) blocks ripping and copying programmes,
but does not affect the quality of the recording of protected content.
Films can be played in best quality, but cannot be copied. The
seamless integration of the solution into the Rimage publishing
systems enable the DVD manufacturers to produce their data media much
more safely in the future without loosing time or changing working
processes. "The protection against copying does not mean more work for
the companies," Alexander Normann says.

The Rimage application is a passive software solution that
encapsulates documents on a DVD and therefore protects data against
widely spread ripping programmes. The digital content of the original
document is not affected, because the copy control documents are saved
on those sectors of the data that are not used for playing the actual
content. There is no need for additional software on the devices.
Independent testing like from Intellikey Labs and Next Generation
Security Consulting confirmed that Rimage Video Protect(TM) guarantees
the playing of the original content as well as high grade
compatibility without installing additional software.

"Hackers cracked the standard HD-DVD copy protection. This means
that the industry needs to work out safe solutions," Alexander Normann
explains. "No anti ripping software is able to provide a total
protection, but Rimage established high barriers most pirates will
fail to crack."
