Chevron oil line in Texas restarts after repair

HOUSTON (Reuters) - An 8-inch Chevron oil pipeline in Texas that was shut by a leak has been repaired and restarted, a spokesman said Wednesday.

The "pinhole" leak occurred in an oil field gathering line in Van Zandt County in northeast Texas on Monday, according to the U.S. National Response Center.

It was the second CHEVRON (CVX.NY)pipeline leak in recent days. An interstate transmission line in Utah leaked 100 barrels near Salt Lake City and was shut December 1.

About 5 barrels of oil spilled in the Texas incident and the line was shut for repairs, which were done and the line restarted the same day, the company spokesman said.

There was no impact on operations, the spokesman said.

Texas Railroad Commission and the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality were notified and oversaw repair and restart, the spokesman said.

The U.S. Department of Transportation's Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Agency is investigating the Utah leak.

Chevron has paid a $400,000 fine for a leak in the same Utah line last June, which investigators blamed on safety violations.
