NEW YORK (Reuters) - Kraft Foods Inc said it is seeking a preliminary injunction in court against Starbucks Corp to try to stop Starbucks from "attempting to unilaterally end" their deal to sell packaged coffee.
Kraft said it is seeking the injunction in U.S. District Court in New York.
"STARBUCKS (SBUX.NQ)is attempting to unilaterally end the strategic partnership," Kraft said in a statement on Monday. Kraft said it wants to stop Starbucks "from proceeding as if the agreement has been terminated, when, in fact, the contract is still in force."
Starbucks said late last month it wants to end the deal, a pact that provides about $500 million in annual sales to Kraft. Kraft said arbitration proceedings it initiated last week in the matter are separate from the court action and will continue.
