The Monster Employment Index Europe jumped 10 points to 143 in
April, rising for a fourth straight month, fuelled by higher demand
for workers in Germany, the Netherlands, Sweden and the UK.
Year-on-year, the Index is up 27 points, or 23%.
The substantial growth across online hiring in Europe in May was
largely driven by strong growth in worker-demand across Germany -
Europe's largest economy - where heavy industries such as production,
manufacturing, maintenance and repair saw more online job
opportunities. The UK also saw a significant rate of increase, where
the hospitality sector performed strongly.
The hospitality and tourism sector showed the fasted rate of
growth in the EU as a result of increased demand for blue-collar
workers in all countries tracked by the Index except Sweden. Demand
for production, manufacturing, maintenance and repair workers also saw
a strong rise.
Blue-collar occupational categories including service, shop and
market sales workers saw the strongest increases in May, while
white-collar workers including professionals saw smaller increases.

Launched in June 2005 with data collected since December 2004, the
Monster Employment Index Europe is compiled by Monster Worldwide. The
Index was established to provide European labour market watchers with
a valuable monthly snapshot of online recruitment activity based on
the research of millions of employer postings from more than 1,400 Web
sites. In addition to providing an analysis of overall European online
job demand, the Index shows changes in online opportunities within
industry sectors and occupational groups.
