Cross Match Technologies, Inc., a leading global provider of
biometric technologies, will host the next meeting of "INCITS/M1," an
influential group of United States biometric standards experts near
its Palm Beach Gardens headquarters in Jupiter, June 4-8.
More than 25 representatives from U.S. government agencies,
commercial enterprises, and universities who are members of the
"INCITS/M1 Biometrics" standards technical committee will meet to
discuss and establish the U.S. position for submission to the
ISO/IEC/JTC 1/SC37 international biometric standards meeting in Berlin
beginning on June 18.
Biometrics uses scientific methods for recognizing humans based
upon one or more intrinsic physical traits. Popular biometric
methodologies include fingerprint, facial, and iris.
Biometric identification systems are increasingly used to:
-- Verify identities at borders and other checkpoints
-- Conduct criminal bookings
-- Prevent identity fraud in government and civil identification
programs.
-- Perform background checks for job applicants
-- Register citizens for national identification and benefits
programs
Greg Cannon, Cross Match's chief technology officer for biometric
solutions and standards, is chairman of one of the INCITS/M1 task
groups on data interchange formats that will be meeting in Jupiter.
INCITS/M1 is a technical committee of the InterNational Committee for
Information Technology Standards (INCITS), which is the primary U.S.
focus of standardization in the field of information and
communications technologies, including biometrics technologies.
INCITS's recommendations will help shape the future of biometrics
into a practical set of standards with worldwide benefits. All
directly and materially affected parties shall have the opportunity
for fair and equitable participation in INCITS.
"Cross Match is honored to host this upcoming meeting of
INCITS/M1," said Cannon. "We are committed to the development of
national and international biometrics standards that encourage
broadening acceptance of biometric technology while protecting
businesses and people worldwide."
