Gracenote(R), a global leader in technology and services that are
an integral part of the digital media economy, today announced that
KDDI Corporation, Japan's most advanced mobile service provider, has
launched Gracenote Discover(TM) to help users explore for music within
the mobile handset environment. KDDI will offer Discover through its
new LISMO Music Search service, which ships with most of its new
handsets that are released starting this month. The first KDDI
handsets with Discover were released this week.
"We chose Gracenote's Discover because of the flexibility and easy
integration within our LISMO platform," said Tatsu Yagi, media
business department, media soft section manager, KDDI. "Gracenote's
integrated solution and unique approach to music discovery simply
offers the best way for consumers to uncover a deep catalogue of new
music using either a mobile phone interface."
"Without a doubt, Gracenote's Discover function has opened a new
door for our unprecedented network-optimized mobile music service. A
main goal for both Media Socket and KDDI was to create more
opportunities to connect people with music, and Discover allows us to
do that in a revolutionary way," said Kuni Kawashima, media business
team leader, Media Socket, the company that developed the service
application for KDDI. "We are looking forward to working with
Gracenote in the future as we both continue to enrich the Japanese
mobile music market."
"We are excited to deploy Gracenote Discover through KDDI as we
can now offer users of their handsets a whole new world of new music
and extremely precise and reliable ways to explore for this music,
while at the same time, providing new revenue opportunities for KDDI,"
said Jim Hollingsworth, Gracenote SVP of sales and marketing."
Powered by Gracenote's Media Database, the world's largest
database of music information accessed by more than 200 million people
annually, Discover is the only solution that optimally combines the
best of the three most powerful methods of generating music
recommendations: starting with music expert editorial, and to be
followed soon by audio attributes derived from digital signal
processing (DSP) such as tempo, mood, and instrumentation, and
community-based preferences. In conjunction with Gracenote
MusicID(TM), the world's most advanced music identification service, a
customer can build a personal taste profile to drive recommendations
based on a full picture of a consumer's preferences - not just recent
purchase history from a single store.
