HONG KONG (Reuters) - A typhoon swept through Hong Kong on Tuesday, closing schools, shutting down most business and injuring at least 28 people as it headed on towards China, the Hong Kong government said.
As Typhoon Koppu continues to move away from Hong Kong, the city will replace the No. 8 storm signal with a No. 3 strong wind signal by around 10 am (3:00 a.m. BST), the Hong Kong Observatory said.
At least 28 people were sent to hospitals as a result of the typhoon but most sustained minor injuries and were discharged after treatment, the government said.
Hong Kong financial markets were closed on Tuesday morning but will reopen in the afternoon if the signal is withdrawn or lowered by noon local time, according to standard procedures.
As of 1:00 a.m. BST Koppu was centred about 220 km west of Hong Kong and was forecast to continue to move inland west-northwest at about 20 km per hour, the observatory said.
