U.S. to approve California emissions standard: source

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The Obama administration was poised on Tuesday to approve California's long-standing bid to set its own standard to reduce tailpipe emissions, a source familiar with the decision said.

The Environmental Protection Agency decision was largely symbolic since the administration has already unveiled plans for stricter fuel efficiency that supporters of the California initiative have embraced.
