WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee adopted language in a comprehensive energy bill that would allow drilling within 45 miles of Florida's Gulf coast.
Florida currently has a 125-mile oil and natural gas leasing buffer zone in the Gulf of Mexico. The Senate panel was expected to approve the entire energy package later on Tuesday.
