BARCELONA (Reuters) - Gabon's President Omar Bongo died on Monday in the Spanish clinic where he was undergoing treatment for a serious illness, newspaper La Vanguardia said on its website citing sources close to the Gabonese president.
Bongo died at 1:00 p.m. British time (1200 GMT), La Vanguardia said, just hours after Gabonese Prime Minister Jean Eyeghe Ndong told a media conference at the Quiron hospital in Barcelona that Bongo was alive and well.
