GM says U.S. sales for February declined 52.9 percent

DETROIT (Reuters) - General Motors Corp said on Tuesday U.S. sales for February declined 52.9 percent. Highlights:

* Says fleet sales down 75 percent versus prior year

* Says car sales down 50 percent, truck sales down 55 percent

* Says initial Q2 2009 production forecast at 550,000 vehicles

* Says end-February inventory 781,000 vehicles

* Says first-quarter production forecast remains unchanged from last month's

projection of 380,000 vehicles

* Says inventory down about 160,000 vehicles, or 17 percent, compared with year

earlier

* Says had 337,000 cars and 444,000 trucks in inventory at the end of February

* Says second quarter production set about 34 percent lower compared with a

year ago
