Wall Street briefly turns negative on RIM, bank plan

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Stocks briefly turned negative on Wednesday, weighed by a disappointing outlook from Research in Motion and lingering concerns about Washington's failure to restore confidence in the financial system.

BlackBerry maker Research in Motion tumbled 17 percent to $47.32, making the stock the top drag on the Nasdaq.

Financial shares were modestly higher on bargain hunting, with JPMorgan leading the Dow.

The Dow Jones industrial average <.DJI> rose 15.61 points, or 0.20 percent, at 7,904.49. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index <.SPX> added 1.49 points, or 0.18 percent, at 828.65. The Nasdaq Composite Index <.IXIC> lost 3.57 points, or 0.23 percent, at 1,521.16.

Earlier all three indexes were up more than 1 pct.
