Wall Street opens higher on bargain search

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Stocks opened higher on Wednesday, with investors scooping up beaten down shares following a sell-off sparked by concerns about a plan to shore up the financial system.

Bank shares were among stocks mounting a recovery, with Wells Fargo rising 1.2 percent to $16.60 and Bank of America up 4 percent to $5.78.

The Dow Jones industrial average <.DJI> was up 49.06 points, or 0.62 percent, at 7,937.94. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index <.SPX> was up 4.83 points, or 0.58 percent, at 832.40. The Nasdaq Composite Index <.IXIC> was up 8.63 points, or 0.57 percent, at 1,533.36.
