Wall Street loses ground after sentiment, PMI

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Stocks turned lower on Friday, erasing an earlier advance, following reports that showed business activity in the Midwest contracted in January, and consumers remained unsettled about the economy.

The Dow Jones industrial average <.DJI> was down 47.23 points, or 0.58 percent, at 8,101.78. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index <.SPX> was down 5.09 points, or 0.60 percent, at 840.05. The Nasdaq Composite Index <.IXIC> was down 5.00 points, or 0.33 percent, at 1,502.84.
